Our Story
Near the end of his 17 year military career as a Marine Special Operations Sniper, Osee “Trey” Fagan, found himself struggling with PTSD and coping with alcohol. Confronted with its toll on his marriage and life, Trey embarked on a journey of healing finding strength in his spiritual community, friends, family, and mentors that supported him through recovery.
Shortly after finding stability in his life, he was invited by his friend and mentor, Randy Batts, to go spearfishing for the first time. Struck by the beauty of the ocean coupled with the primitive instincts and adrenaline rush of spearfishing, he knew he had stumbled upon something special out on those ocean waters. This became the catalyst that sparked his obsession for spearfishing at every opportunity he could—but he couldn’t keep it to himself. He knew there were others like him who needed to experience what it meant to rediscover their SpearIT.
SpearIT aims to support veterans & services members through a familiar environment of brotherhood and comradery. In addition to providing their families the opportunity to experience restoration and spark positive perspectives shifts on life.
2022
Our first year in the water we helped 75 veterans and service members experience the thrill of spearfishing completely funded by our donors generosity. Docked in the same vicinity as the biggest Marine Corps Base on the east coast, Camp Lejeune, we were determined to get the word out.
2023
We expanded our experiences opening them up to the whole family. In addition to our advanced spearfishing expeditions we started offering hook and line fishing trips bring families back together and create lifelong memories that extend beyond the boat. In this year we supported 250 veterans, services members, and families. Inspired by our growth and we’re excited for 2024!
